Fahrenheit to Celsius Converter

Type a temperature in either box to convert °F to °C or °C to °F, with Kelvin shown too.

Fahrenheit to Celsius

100 °F =

37.78 °C

(100 − 32) × 5/9 = 37.78

Kelvin
310.93 K

The formula

Water freezes at 32 °F (0 °C) and boils at 212 °F (100 °C), so 180 Fahrenheit degrees span the same range as 100 Celsius degrees. Subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9 to get Celsius; multiply by 9/5 and add 32 to get Fahrenheit.

100 °F = 37.78 °C

Frequently asked questions

What is 100 °F in Celsius?

(100 − 32) × 5/9 = 37.8 °C, a mild fever. Normal body temperature, 98.6 °F, is 37 °C.

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply by 9/5 (1.8) and add 32. 20 °C is 20 × 1.8 + 32 = 68 °F.

Is there a quick mental shortcut?

For weather, double the Celsius and add 30: 15 °C ≈ 60 °F (exactly 59 °F). Going the other way, subtract 30 and halve. The shortcut drifts at very high or low temperatures.
