How a Wi-Fi QR code works
The code contains a short text like WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyNetwork;P:mypassword;; with the security type (T), network name (S) and password (P). Phone cameras recognise this format and offer to join the network.
Anyone who can see the code can read the password, so for a café, office or Airbnb it's a good idea to set up a separate guest network and put that one in the code.

Is it safe to type my Wi-Fi password here?
Yes. The code is generated in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
Which phones can scan a Wi-Fi QR code?
The built-in camera on iPhones (iOS 11 and later) and most Android phones (Android 10 and later, or with Google Lens) can join a network from a Wi-Fi QR code.
What if I change my password?
Make a new code. The old one still contains the old password and won't connect anymore.
